Salut! I am now living in Bucharest, Romania and am MELTING! (30 degrees here) Moved here from Ireland on Monday the 13th for buzzziness- landed a full time position as a grade 3 and 4 – that’s 1st and 2nd class for Irish system- English teacher in the Cambridge School of Bucharest. So excited to meet my classes! First up is a week of training and I begin teaching the the 27th/28th of August. Gives me some time to settle in too! I am living in an ideal location, about 20 minutes’ walk from the main square. Big change for me, coming from the sticks of Ireland, and have never lived IN a capital city before. So far from what I’ve seen, Bucharest is;
~ Mix of old and new with a huge variation in design
~ Pretty boulevards and parks
~ Hot, hot and hot (shock to the system for the Irish girl)
~ Busy but not what I was expecting, almost a Spanish vibe of easy going too.
~ Super friendly people
All in all, a good mix! Its early days yet but I have a good feeling about this city so hopefully I will make it my home longer than an academic year.
A mate of mine; Nick, was passing through Bucharest just as I arrived so we went all out tourist and took a guided tour of the city. Won’t give info cos I don’t remember but mainly cos you should go on the tour if you are ever in Bucharest! Free walking tour (just give them a tip at the end) with www.guided-bucharest.com
Here are some snaps I took on the tour with my trusty Canon 1000D, nearly 3 hours of trekking. I no longer have feet. :<
Unirii park (first subway to get there, exciting times!)
Dambovita River... I think!
Local at the river showed me his catch!
Oldest beer house in the city.
Look at that happy prancing, pooing horse!
Current plan: Monthly photo blog update on my times in Bucharest. Hopefully!
Looks so pretty!! xx
